Ben and Stephanie McLeish of
Desire Street Ministries and St. Roch Community Church

  • Desire Street Ministries started in 1990 when Mo and Ellen Leverett (from Macon, Georgia) moved into the neighborhood surrounding the Desire Housing Project in the Upper Ninth Ward of New Orleans, often rated one of the worst in the nation for crime, drugs and poverty. Today they also work in other “pockets of poverty” within the United States.
  • Stephanie (from FVUMC) and Ben were instrumental in planning St. Roch Community Church. St. Roch Community Church (established in the Eighth Ward of New Orleans in 2007) is a multicultural congregation that preaches the Gospel in word and deed, intentionally reaches and disciples youth, and seeks to address the communities' felt needs using the following ministries.
  • After School Program
  • Summer Day Camp
  • Block Parties
  • Artist in Residence
  • Christmas Store
  • Clothes Closet
  • Zumba
  • Community Development
